General penetration measuring applications with any low and medium viscous liquid:

melamine resin absorption of decorative paper (by using the RSE/OSB sample preparation device)
determination of the sizing degree/ surface sizing
assessment of the surface porosity of paper/board
oil absorption (by using the RSE/OSB).

Study of the coating color to base paper interaction, contacted with high shear impulse and pressure load.
Simulates of the applicator of a coating machine, also possible for the investigation of base paper and coated paper.

PenetrationsDynamikAnalysator emtec PDA.C 02 Module HVL High Viscous Liquid

Specific for the measurement of high viscous liquids like adhesives and printing ink.
The measurement of low viscous liquids of course is also possible.
The big advantage: no cleaning after measurement of contaminating liquids, a small amount of test liquids, only 3.5ml per measurement.

Device to predict and investigate the print mottle/print unevenness tendency of coated paper/board by penetration measurements of coating base paper respectively of inkjet papers.

New sensor concept: 32 pixels, each 1 mm², in a line.

Based on the same measuring principle like the PDA.C02. This instrument is specific suitable for an easy quality control directly at the paper machine, and for application engineers of chemical companies at the customers.

Measuring principle

In a test cell, a paper sample is contacted with liquid. From the moment of contact, low-energy high-frequency ultrasound is transmitted through the sample in a Z-direction.

While the paper absorbs the liquid, the attenuation of the ultrasound undergoes characteristic changes.

The ultrasonic signals are received by a high-sensitivity sensor for processing in the PDA.C 02 from where they are transmitted to a personal computer and displayed as an intensity - time - diagram.

From the shape of curve the following conclusions may be derived:

All quality parameters of paper and especially those surface properties which influence the wetting and absorbtion of an appropriate test liquid.

Quality parameters of liquids that may be characterzed by means of a test paper.

Converting behaviour of industrial paper / paperboard grades and process fluids.
